It is the end of World War I. Somewhere in the mountains of Northern Italy, a platoon of the British Army is enjoying the thought of their imminent return home. Despite the hope, the soldiers' reactions seem to be different and, at times, unexpected. Brian and Sam seem to have had two opposite experiences during their interminable years in the army. They have just met, but a strong invisible bond leads them to a deeper understanding of their own humanity.
